ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has assured the United States of comprehensive security arrangements for American companies engaged in the Reko Diq mining project, one of the country’s largest foreign investment ventures, aimed at reinforcing investor confidence and safeguarding strategic economic interests.

The assurance was given by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi during a meeting with US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs S. Paul Kapur on Friday in Islamabad. The meeting reviewed bilateral relations, regional security dynamics, and opportunities for expanded cooperation between Pakistan and the United States.

The high-level engagement was also attended by Acting US Ambassador Natalie Baker, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, and senior officials from both sides.

Officials said discussions focused on strengthening operational security frameworks to ensure a stable and predictable environment for foreign investors, particularly in high-value strategic projects such as Reko Diq.

Minister Naqvi reiterated that Pakistan-US relations had strengthened during the tenure of former US President Donald Trump, describing the partnership as being rooted in “mutual trust, shared objectives, and sustained cooperation.”

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to facilitating US investment and cooperation, particularly in areas of counterterrorism and counter-narcotics. He also called for enhanced people-to-people connectivity, urging the early resumption of direct flights between Pakistan and the United States to boost trade, education, and diaspora links.

The interior minister noted that improved air connectivity would further strengthen business activity and academic exchanges between the two countries.

Regional security, particularly the evolving situation in the Middle East, also came under discussion. Naqvi expressed hope for a peaceful and lasting resolution through coordinated international diplomacy to reduce regional instability.

US Assistant Secretary S. Paul Kapur appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace and stability, with observers viewing the remarks as a positive signal of Washington’s continued strategic interest in engaging with Islamabad.

Both sides agreed to maintain momentum in security cooperation and institutional engagement, with a focus on ensuring a secure environment for foreign investment and strengthening bilateral ties.
